Make Up Vanity to Match Your Wardrobe

If what you are attempting to do is bring about a more cohesive look to your bedroom furniture, then consider getting a matching make up vanity and wardrobe.  While you might be more attracted to antique pieces, there are more modern pieces of these furniture items as well.  We’ll be discussing both of these items here with some background and ideas regarding the more modern use of each.

To begin with, let’s begin our discussion with a bit of background on the wardrobe closet.  You see, it wasn’t always the case that all of your clothing was placed in some small room in the corner of your master bedroom or other room in your home.  The closets we have today are more like places to hide our clothing and shoes than they are pieces of furniture that add character and a decor element to our space.  At around the turn of the 20th century, those wooden wardrobe closets so beautifully crafted would hold most, if not all, of one’s clothes.

In fact, decades before, men really only owned a few pairs of pants and a handful of shirts.  They probably had a jacket, maybe two and a nice pair of shoes, a work boot and a tie.  Hats were pretty popular as well, so that could be found hanging on the coat rack nearby.  Women also had a much more selective set of clothes in their wardrobe – several dresses and some other ‘work’ clothes and that would about do it.  So, it wasn’t necessary to have a large closet like we have today.

There were also other features of bedrooms back in those times which we have lost today.  One such piece of furniture from that same time period is the vanity.  The make up vanity of today is a much different design than it was in the past.  What you may have seen as a beautifully carved mirror frame and some handsome drawers and pulls has been replaced by a much more functional-over-artistic piece of furniture.  As you can see, both this vanity and wardrobe have taken on different forms in today’s day and age, but their roots remain.
