Travertine Tile Installation

Flooring tile options may be limitless but without the correct adhesive and grout, the finished product will not look as good as it could. So aside from the tile and the color choices and styles of patterns, you will need to find the perfect adhesive and grout combination to ensure the best possible finish.

You will need to calculate 1x 20kg bag of adhesive for each 4 – 5m2 of tile and the price of good adhesive is about £20.00 per bag. What is so special about adhesive? Well, it’s a white cement-based, tile adhesive that sets quickly and has a strength and flexibility like no other cement, meaning it won't make your tiles crack or set in an odd manner if done correctly.

A good adhesive will be able to safely be applied to any travertine tile flooring, no matter its delicate color or finish, and can used for inside floor tiling projects or outdoor walls or floors.

Tile Grout

The next important product you will need for a quality travertine tile installation is grout, which again should be selected based on the color of tile, either beige or ivory or it can be tinted to compliment the color of the stone. Grout is a plasticized and water resistant substance that will fill 1 to 6mm joints between tiles, either on walls or floors. To buy it is cheap, about 10kg of grout costs £12.50 and a small bag of 3kg of grout is only £6.50. Now you will be ready for the most important part of all, the sealer.

Guard your Travertine Tile with the Right Sealer

One brand of sealer that is often recommended for travertine tile is called SealGuard. This is a strange and wonderful combination of penetrating invisible and breathable protection that totally shields both the stone and the grout from elements moisture and staining. This is a type of sealant that is absorbed by the stone and deeply penetrates its pores, keeping your travertine tiles like new.

Sealer is a little more expensive than either adhesive or grout but it's well worth it. You'll want to buy about a liter of SealGuard or other sealant for each 0m2. You'll also want to give each area a second coat. Each liter costs about £40.00 or you can buy 5 liters for about £185.00.
