The Three Kinds of Seattle Criminal Attorney
If you ever get in trouble with the law, for whatever reason, and you don't know a criminal attorney you can trust off the bat, it is really difficult to know who to choose. Do you choose the cheapest? The person that promises the most? The person you get the best feeling from? Or all of the above? Or none of the above? Well, I've been a practicing Seattle criminal attorney for some time now, and I can tell you that in my experience there are three types of criminal lawyer. Read below to learn about each of the levels.
The first level of criminal attorney is what I would describe as terrible. They don't know what they are doing or don't care. They don't care about you. They care about signing you up and closing out the case as quickly as possible. And the bad thing is, the prosecutors know who these people are and they are treated much differently than the other two types of criminal attorneys. You can spot these people in a couple of ways. First, they are usually the cheapest. They make their money on volume, not on service. To keep their practice alive, they need to sign up as many people as possible. This means feeding on those people who are dumb enough to pay the cheapest person for help. Second, they usually make you promises they can't keep to get you to sign up. No guarantees are made, who they know doesn't really matter and before they see the police report, they aren't going to be able to give you any concrete answers.
Stay away from this guy.
The second level of criminal attorney is the good attorney. You won't go wrong picking someone at this level. They usually aren't the best out there. They may not be well known in the community. And usually they have one thing holding them back from reaching the third tier. This criminal attorney isn't the cheapest, but they aren't the most expensive. They aren't afraid to go to trial and will actually investigate your case and look for ways to get the charges dismissed or significantly reduced.
I feel like I fall into this category. It's not all about price, but I charge enough to give me the ability to thoroughly investigate every case I have. I know what I'm doing and am constantly working to get better. I genuinely care about the welfare of my clients. And I work hard to get the best outcome possible for all of them. So, the next question is what is my hold up? Well, I don't have the trial experience that the next tier of attorneys has.
The final level of criminal attorney is the seasoned pro. This criminal lawyer has a lot of trials under his belt, has a proven track record, and charges for it. This type of attorney is needed some times (think OJ Simpson, for example). But in most cases, the good criminal lawyer can get a similar outcome for a much lower price (you are paying for what you get in the practice of law). These guys are well known in the community and charge a premium price for their services.
Take the time to find the right person for you. And stay away from the terrible criminal attorney. If you make your decision based on price, you will be paying for it in the long run, literally.
