Even the best Seattle DUI attorneys face an uphill battle with every single DUI case they help someone with. Our profession is a true underdog story. With the advent of mothers against drunk driving, students against drunk driving, and everyone else against drunk driving, the laws on driving after drinking have become so restrictive as to make every case an uphill battle. (Just FYI, I am against drunk drivers and drunk driving, the problem I have is with people being accused of drunk driving not because of bad driving but because they can't walk a line heel to toe.)

Practicing criminal defense is a challenging career path. I don't know that I ever planned to be a Seattle DUI attorney, or a criminal attorney at all for that matter. Sure, it looked cool on the movies, and it seemed like it would be pretty fun to fight the cops, but I never really thought to myself "I want to do that." But here I am. And now that I am, I see it takes a pretty special breed of person to do it well. I write and talk about this all the time. Don't talk to cops. Just don't do it. Ever. Nothing good comes of it. You will almost always end up in trouble, and if you weren't doing anything or don't have anything on you to get in trouble, you feel dirty for getting put through the ringer. Take if from a Seattle DUI attorney – just don't talk to cops.

One of the great things about the United States is that we all have Constitutional rights. These rights allow us to enjoy a freedom not many other people around the world can. What is sad, though, is that people don't take the time to fully understand those rights, and as a result, they often end up in trouble they could have avoided. Almost all of us have, at one time or another, gotten behind the wheel and driven home after having a drink or two. And the good thing about it, is that this is okay. When things can go seriously wrong is when you get pulled over by a cop after having those couple drinks. If that happens, then there is a chance that you will be fighting for your freedom, and need a Seattle DUI attorney to help.

This is sort of old news and if you are a Seattle DUI attorney, you certainly know about it. But I thought I'd discuss it anyway, since it is important news. It's about the breathalyzer test in King County in Washington State (basically Seattle). For the last year and a half or so, they've been inadmissible in court as evidence of DUI. The case that decided it was called Ahmach, and it was a doozy. Stay tuned to learn a little bit more about it.

If you are not a Seattle DUI attorney, the title of this article probably means nothing to you. But if you are ever stopped and searched by the police illegally, you are going to be happy this rule (or lack of rule) exists. The rule, the inevitable discovery doctrine, is a benchmark of United States legal jurisprudence. It has saved cops on occasions too numerous to count from having illegally obtained evidence excluded from trial. And it now formally doesn't exist in Washington State.

You probably can't tell by the title of my post, but I am a Seattle DUI attorney. This means I defend people every day who have been charged with DUI. Some were more drunk than others. Some probably should have been off the road. But almost all of them share one characteristic – when they had a chance to talk to me they declined to do so, and it hurt them. Now, don't misunderstand my message before I even get started. I'm not saying you should only talk to me. I'm saying at the first opportunity, you should get in touch with a DUI attorney in Seattle and find out what your options are and what you should do.
