How to Make the Most Out of a Small Breakfast Nook

Not everyone is blessed with a big kitchen and most people do not have room for a large table in their breakfast nook. In fact, some people do not have a breakfast nook at all. Even if you have a small space, you can still enjoy the benefits of an eat-in kitchen. There are a few ways to utilize small spaces or your kitchen island so that you can eat in your kitchen and have a place to gather with friends and family.

If you have no nook at all then you will not be able to purchase any nook set at all. The way you can still eat in your kitchen is to use your kitchen island. All you need to do is buy a few stools and you are ready to go. If you are fortunate enough to be able to design your island from scratch, there are a few things you can do on the island to make sitting there more comfortable. First, you can make sure that the counter extends out farther than the cabinets underneath it so that there is a comfortable place to put your knees and legs when sitting at the island. If you want to keep the eating surface separate from the food preparation surface then you can build the edge of your kitchen island up higher so that the surfaces are separate. It is nice to have stools at your island in any case so that someone can keep the cook company.

If you do have a small breakfast nook area, then you might want to think about a small café style table that sits two people. These tables are usually round and can be at a normal table height with chairs or high tops with stools. A small round table does not take up much room. One variety that is very popular is a rod iron table and chairs. They are light and the fact that they are not bulky makes them even better choices for small spaces. If you choose the high top table design then you will want stools for sitting. The higher tables are reminiscent of a café or bar. This may be why they are usually seen in apartments and the living spaces of young people.
