A Red Wedding Means Passion All The Way
Couples often choose a date near Valentine's Day so they can have a "red wedding." They want the works: Red wedding flowers, red wedding cake, red bridesmaid dresses, red wedding bouquets – everything including a red wedding gown for the bride.
Now you might think that red weddings are too, too much. Or you may be at the other extreme and think you've love to get married in a red wedding gown. The degree to which you go for red wedding dresses and other big red decorations depends entirely upon your passion.
That's right, to pull off a red wedding successfully, you have to have a passion for red, and to know when to pull the reins on your passion. That's because in color psychology, red is known as a "stopper" of a color, something that literally makes people stop and look. (Must be conditioning from all those stop signs around the world.).
Seriously, with today's fashion trends in weddings, a passion for red is nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, it's something that a bride and groom can play to the hilt, as long as you know the best ways to use such an intense, vibrant color.
For instance, how about those red bridesmaid dresses? Since the color is already something that's going to make people notice, it's a good idea to choose a dress style that doesn't overdo it. At one red wedding, the bridesmaids were in beautiful tea-length dresses of a simple, sleek design that looked equally beautiful on the plus-sized matron of honor as it did on the junior bridesmaid.
And the other arrangements? The wedding cake can be a sumptuous traditional white on the outside, but the inside can be a Red Velvet Cake, a popular flavor in the southern United States. Or how about strawberry? Or peppermint? The wedding bouquets are a snap to create, since they can be made of red roses surrounded by white baby's breath for contrast. However, there are plenty of other flowers that also come in beautiful shades of red, such as peonies or cosmos. Your florist can advise on some different blossoms that will add to the beauty of the day.
The final touch to one sumptuous red wedding was the addition of red to the otherwise black-and-white tuxedos worn by the men in the wedding party. The groomsmen wore red cummerbunds and red bow ties. Meanwhile the handsome groom wore a traditional black tuxedo with crisp white shirt and black cummerbund and a deep red rose with a bit of baby's breath as his boutonniere.
The result of all this red was to make the bride and groom stand out even more in their traditional white gown and black tuxedo. And that's the key to any wedding color scheme – to put the emphasis on the couple getting married.
Christmas and Valentine's Day are two traditional seasons when a red wedding is popular, but don't be limited to what's traditional. If you're passionate about red, then use your passion to create your own showstopper of a red wedding.
