Passive Income – Can You Make It Online?

Can passive income be made online? I believe so – in fact it's one of those rare things – making a passive income online doesn't require a large, upfront investment. Anyone can make $6000/year passive income – just invest $100,000 at 6% interest – and there you go! So when you search for passive income, you will find lots about stocks and property investment but little about the little understood art of how to earn passive income online.

I have built an online business around building websites which target the right keywords. Once those websites make their way to the top of the Google rankings they earn me income. My income comes in each month from a variety of sources – but AdSense, eBay and ClickBank are the most consistent payers. The real beauty of my passive income business is that it takes little to no investment to get started. Domains and hosting are all your really need – which can be had for less than US $100. If $100 is even too much money, you can start with free blogs at places like blogspot.com and free pages on sites such as HubPages.

The tricky bit with building a passive income online is not raising the capital. It's finding the motivation to do the work today for money which may not come for months. Ranking new websites is difficult – Google makes it deliberately so – it works and most spammers give up. You need to not give up but keep on working with the promise of being paid sometime in the future – and that is the hard thing to do for most people. Particularly if they are trying to make an income to pay the bills this month – not next!

There is heated debate between Internet Marketers whether one website or hundreds are best – but if you are just starting out, I'd say get at least ten websites up and running – they don't have to be huge – but spread them around several different niches. The best way to find what pays and what doesn't is to have your own successes and failures and learn from them. Good luck!
