My Log Home Builders

Cowboy Log Builders with Lake Country Log Homes
I can honestly say that I have my very own log home builders. As the wife of a log home builder in Montana I have the privilege of running to the local hardware store for everything from PVC pipe to paint brushes.
Especially when we only had our first child, it was boring sitting at home, so I always would end up at the job sites. My husband would smile and walk over to the SUV. I never dared to drive anything that was not four wheel drive, with many of our log home sites being off of the beaten path. Besides, mini vans are for city people in my thinking. My little boy loved to ride around in the car, so we would offer to go to the store, grab donuts for the crew, or offer some 'expert advice' about paint colors, cabinet arrangement, and home stain colors. There are no end to the parade of details required to bring a home to completion. If I could simply drive down to the store and save the crew some precious hours of daylight, I was happy to do it. Now I have a big boy who thinks it is great to go out on the job sites with Daddy. He's been doing it since he was so small that it is just natural to see him learning the trade from his father. Log home builders are a special group of craftsman that choose to build more difficult homes than a standard construction building. Many of the general contractors who handle stick frame homes have great respect for the log builders, but they would rather remodel their mother-in-laws kitchen for free than tackle one of our projects. Why? Because logs take special knowledge to build correctly, they are more time consuming, and also they are very hard to bid. Bidding is where you make your money. Bidding cuts the difference between going bankrupt and paying you bills with some left over to put towards retirement. Over the years we have seen many contractors bid themselves right out of the game. Log homes have more variables. There are ways to limit your exposure, by using very qualified subcontractors and also by choosing fully pre- cut log home packages, but still log homes are a challenge from start to finish. Log home builders who have been around for many years are able to bid accurately and wisely for both themselves and the homeowner.
