Fashion Mainstays: Denim Shorts, Pencil Skirts And Flare Jeans

Every woman needs some fashion mainstays in her wardrobe. These types of clothes are the ones that work with all kinds of accessories, shoes and pieces of your closet. You can add a basic shirt with the shorts; you can wear the skirts to work or dancing. Some clothes in a woman's closet need to be versatile. I've put together a small list of pieces that do just that.

There are many different types of ladies clothes and one popular summer time item is denim shorts. Denim shorts are typically called short shorts and they became very famous when Daisy Duke wore then on the show "The Dukes of Hazard" (and the shorts became known as "Daisy Dukes"). These denim shorts tend to be very well situated for those that have very long legs.

However, there are other varying lengths of denim shorts that can be worn to suit you. You can even make your own denim shorts from a pair of old jeans that may be ripped or beyond wearing. You just need to cut the jeans to the appropriate length and rough up the edges a bit so that they begin to fray.

Black skirts are also very popular as black is always slimming and black can go with any top. You can even find black skirts in different materials that are appropriate for different seasons. Linen, cotton and silk black skirts can be perfect for the summer, while tweed and heavier fabrics are better for the colder months of the winter.

A black skirt can be worn in a variety of ways that including pairing it with a professional short and pumps for a day at the office, pair it with a fitted tee and some flat for a trip to the mall, flip flops and a tank for a warm summer day, top it with a sweater and some leggings for a cold winter day. Layer a blazer on top for additional warmth, and you can even dress up your black skirt with some high heels and a flashy shirt for an evening out at a club or bar.

The pencil skirt is considered to be a piece of classic clothing and a staple in many wardrobes. Pencil skirts tend to be narrow, which restricts movement, though any will have a slit or a pleat that allows more movement. The pencil skirt became very popular for office wear and it can be worn as a separate piece or part of a suit.

When wearing a pencil skirt, you will need to adjust how you move as walking needs to change to shorter strides and you will need to practice standing and sitting. Certain activities are not recommended when wearing pencil skirt such as climbing ladders. Black Pencil skirts can be excellent in the winter as they will not get blown around.

Flare jeans are a type of style that tends to go in and out of fashion. These jeans are skinny until the mid calf, where the jeans will then flare and get larger. An extreme version of this is the bell bottom. Flare jeans can be a great option when wearing boots.

Flare jeans were originally popular in the 70s but have come back into style many times. They can look great with skinny sweaters and fitted tops. Flared jeans tend to create a slimmer silhouette and look much sleeker than slouchy boyfriend jeans. Flared jeans can make the most of your curves and can draw attention away from your waist and hips.
