DIY home sauna kits are a great way for you to build yourself a sauna in your own home or garden using an easy-to-assemble kit, without the need for any carpentry skills, all you need is a credit card and a hammer. Sauna kits cost between $1500 and $12,000 depending on the size.

Saunas are great for relaxing in the buff on your own or with friends, but they are also a great way of eliminating toxins. Temperatures in saunas are in excess of 80°C (176°F) so when you are in your sauna the pores of your skin open up and you sweat. When you sweat, dirt and oil drains out of your pores. A 30 minute session will cleanse your pores thoroughly and your skin will feel soft and smooth.

A basic prefabricated modular sauna kit will contain all the wood cut to the right size, plus the instructions and illustrations. The best sort of wood to use is cedar as it expands and contracts with the heat.

You will also need to decide which form of heater to choose – electric, gas, wood-fired or infrared. Electric heaters are the most popular but gas heaters are cheaper to run (although this will depend on gas prices of course). Wood-fired heaters should only be used outdoors in detached saunas not in indoor home saunas. Far Infrared Ray (FIR) ceramic heaters are another popular choice but they don’t use traditional hot rocks like other stoves.

These saunas do not need framing or insulation so if you don't like DIY then go for this option. But a large unit can cost several hundred dollars to ship.

A pre-fabricated sauna kit can be put together in one or two hours. Bear in mind that a sauna does use up a lot of energy but it generally represents a good investment as it will add value to your house if you ever decide to sell it.
