How to Choose a TV Wall Mount
It happens many times that people decide to make an upgrade and buy a flat screen TV, they go to the store, agree which model they want to buy, based on their personal budget and on other criteria such as how big their room is, what features they are keen on having or what color should the TV set have in order to match the room decor and style. After that, with the item already in the basket, they realize they'll need to hang it on the wall, but something seems to be missing. They are right.
The missing part is the TV wall mount. It is not included in the LCD or plasma TV pack, so it needs to be purchased separately. But of course, if you're in the situation described above, you'll have no clue on what to look for in choosing the mount that's right for you. Here's a brief guide to help you make yourself an idea of how this goes:
The wall type matters
Most wall mounts can't be installed on thin walls, so you'll have to use the studs to have it attached to the wall. Depending on your room's configuration, you may be forced to install the TV wall mount on a single stud, therefore all screws need to be in line, in order to fit this pattern. If you don't know your wall configuration, you need to use a metal detector to see where the studs are, then decide which type of mount you need to buy.
If you have concrete or brick walls, you'll need to check whether or not your chosen wall mount includes the special screws or concrete sleeve anchors. If it doesn't, you'll have to purchase them too, but make sure you get them correctly, so they can hold the weight you want to hang on them and even more, just as a safety measure. Usually, the flat screen TV weight is given on the specifications on box, so you'll have to add it to the wall mount weight in order to obtain the total.
The weight of the TV set is directly related to the screen size
Make sure to buy a TV wall mount only after you check that it's made to support the weight of your TV set. This is easy: if you check the screen diagonal to fit inside the recommended sizes for the wall mount, you're on the safe side.
The holes pattern matters
LDC screen TV sets come with holes on the back panel, displayed in a pattern which most of the times is standardized: if it's VESA compliant, then you'll need to get a VESA-compliant wall mount with the same distance between the holes. If it's not VESA compliant, then you'll probably need to buy an additional panel which is.
Basically, that's all you need to know and to take care of before buying your TV wall mount.
