Does Biotin Work As A Hair Loss Treatment?
If you're suffering from hair loss and have done some research on the good hair loss treatments, you may come across biotin. There is a link between biotin and hair loss and there are suggestions that taking biotin products can work as a baldness treatment.
The major cause of baldness in men is male pattern baldness. This is an inherited condition where the male sex hormone called DHT strangles the hair follicles gradually by limiting their ability to take in essential nutrients. Biotin has been found to be important in hair health in so it would seem there is indeed a hair loss biotin link. Let's see.
Biotin is a vitamin. It is, in fact, a water-soluble B group vitamin called vitamin B7. It is found in a variety of foods and is also manufactured in the body and has a role in the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates and proteins into energy in the cells and therefore has a role in cell growth. It is known that people who are deficient in biotin can lose their hair and even their eyebrows. It has a role in hair health because it affects the metabolism of scalp oils in the scalp hair follicles.
For this reason, there are some people who consider that taking products such as biotin supplements can work as a hair restoration treatment. However, there is little evidence that taking biotin on its own works to treat male baldness. However, that does not mean that there is no role of biotin for hair growth.
There are recognized baldness treatments on the markets now. The first of these products that was recognized and approved by the FDA is a hair restoration treatment called minoxidil. Minoxidil goes under a variety of product namesm however it is recognized as one of the best, if not the best, hair loss treatment on the market today.
Using minoxidil on its own can be an effective and the best hair loss cure for many men. However, for most men, minoxidil on its own is not a complete answer. To understand why, you need to know a little more about why men lose their hair. In cases of male pattern baldness, the most common cause of thinning hair in men, the male sex hormone DHT strangles hair follicles gradually by limiting their ability to absorb essential nutrients.
Minoxidil inhibits the operation of the DHT, allowing the follicles to absorb essential nutrients. However, if these are not available in sufficient quantities they cannot be absorbed. One product has tackled this problem by combining the use of minoxidil with a range of essential nutrients, including biotin, in a two-pronged approach. Once the minoxidil has blocked the operation of the DHT, all the essential hair nutrients are available to the follicle to be absorbed and to enhance optimum hair health.
So whilst there is no clear evidence that using biotin for hair loss works successfully on its own, one excellent hair restoration product does use biotin as one of the active ingredients in its complete hair restoration system. Biotin products on their own do very little, but in a combined total approach, work well with other ingredients to produce much better hair regrowth.
