Ben Hogan's Golf Swing Secret Revealed
One of the big mysteries of golf is the Ben Hogan Golf Swing secret. Ben Hogan was said to have found the secret to consistent ball striking, and he nearly proved it with unbelievable consistency for several years of dominating golf. There is a lot of folklore about Mr. Hogan, such as hitting balls from sun up to sun down. Something like a million golf balls in his career. He, no doubt, outworked all of his peers and his record showed it.
With a near fatal car accident that almost left him paralyzed, he made the comeback of a lifetime winning three more major championships, and several more professional tournaments. Just a miraculous feet for someone who nearly died and was told they would never walk again. Ben Hogan in my opinion was playing (toying with) the golfing community and media when he said he was going to release his golf swing secret.
Was it the cupped left wrist? The bowed left wrist at impact? The flat, short backswing? Or maybe, the angle in his right leg on his backswing? We'll never know now, but many a golf pro has tried to make money off of what they say is the "real secret" to Ben Hogan's Golf Swing. I think this is a shame, but good 'ol capitalism at its best, right?
All I can say is Ben Hogan is someone I would say was, in his time, the best ball striker to ever play the game. Maybe even in today's game, he might be considered the best. He brought a work ethic that also may be unmatched, although Tiger Woods might be a close second. Maybe even Vijay Singh as well. Either way, Ben Hogan was to be admired for his hard work, dedication, and perseverance to play at such a high level for many years.

I believe Ben actually did find two very important parts to the golf swing which helped him dominate the pro tournaments of his day. One being the connection between his left bicep and chest. All good ball strikers have this connection from address thru backswing all the way till impact. Second is the angle of the club at the start of the downswing. This angle is called the V-gap angle and it is wider on the backswing than it is on the downswing. Of course you have to maintain a straight left arm and flat left wrist. There was a study done on this angle by noted teacher Jim McLean: Golf Digest Magazine; October 2009 issue. More can be read about this in that issue. If you look at Ben Hogan and then look at the images with the article you will see the comparison. Thanks for the opportunity to reply, HAWK
